TV Line talks to Vampire Diaries EP Julie Plec and writer Michael Narducci about what to expect on the next coming episodes this season.
ELENA/STEFAN/DAMON | If you’re wondering what an out-of-control Elena’s attraction to Damon means for the trio in the future, Plec advises, “You need to ask, ‘How does it impact the triangle next week?’” For one, after finding out that Stefan made a deal with Klaus, “[Elena] definitely starts next week really super mad at him. Forgiveness and understanding and learning the truth of what he’s up to and what he was up to, all those things are up ahead. We’ll see how she handles it.” As for the brothers, while they found a nice moment of peace, “there’s going to be a lot conspiring against them as all of the aftershocks of the events of this episode start to do their damage.”
ELENA THE KILLER | As the blood-soaked ending of Thursday’s episode hinted, “The consequences of that first kill are pretty profound,” teases Plec. So what’s behind Elena’s disturbing hallucinations? “Killing a hunter comes with a price. There’s a weird consequence to it all that she’s going to have to deal with that takes her to some dark, dark, dark places.”
JEREMY AND MATT | “Right now, it’s just the beginning of [Jeremy] being awakened,” says Plec. “Connor told him he was a potential, and this is a hint that Connor was speaking the truth.” Meanwhile, Matt will continue to be the human voice of reason “as Jeremy struggles with supernatural urges to kill vampires and as Elena’s going down the rabbit hole of the consequences of having killed someone.” (The Gilberts are now also “supernaturally predisposed to be in conflict.”) Adds writer Michael Narducci: “Matt and Jeremy are going to become closer as [Matt] takes on an older brother role to help his buddy, who’s going through these difficult problems.”
THE LOVE SQUARE | Rather than coming in to create relationship drama, “[Hayley] is there for a reason,” explains Plec. “It’s about Tyler’s story and what he, as a hybrid free of Klaus, wants to accomplish on behalf of the people that are part of his pack.” Thinking that something more-than-friendly happened between Hayley and Tyler in the past will “give Klaus this gleeful, perverse little power thing he thinks he holds over Caroline and Tyler and will allow him to be emboldened enough to try to squeeze in there and make a move or two. But when all is said and done, they’re currently pulling one over his eyes a little bit.”
THE PROFESSOR AND THE WITCH | Bonnie’s finally found someone to help her, but the good – or not-so-good – Professor Shane has “an alternate agenda that he’s hiding,” confirms Plec. “We just don’t know if it’s in her best interest or not. A lot of that will start coming to light over the next chapter.” And it won’t be long before he comes into contact with her friends, too. “[He] starts to cross paths with our group next week with some answers. Whether they’re legit or not remains to be seen.”

EOnline has the scoop on what to expect with Vampire Diaries character Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) in season 4.
Sarah: Give a Vampire Diaries fan something to get me through one more week. Any scoop on Bonnie this season?
You’re in luck! We chatted with Kat Graham who said she’s taking Elena’s transformation “hard, like everyone.” Kat added: “It’s a transition time for everyone in the beginning of the season. Bonnie is going to have to be put under a lot of pressure to make something happen, and she’s going to have to rely on someone new to help her through that.” Hmm…new love interest, perhaps?
Question: One Vampire Diaries scoop about Jeremy, please! —Kim
Ausiello: The first seed of Jer’s big Season 4 arc will be planted in Episode 2, airing Oct. 18. Meanwhile, that same episode may set a new Guinness record for featuring the highest concentration of bloody puke in a single hour-long episode of television.

Tricia: Please, I beg of you, Vampire Diaries scoop that isn’t about the love triangle.
How about scoop that is about one person in said love triangle? As if her transition won’t be giving her enough to deal with, we’ve learned that Connor, the new vampire hunter (played by Todd Williams) coming to MysticFalls, will set his sights on Elena. Can’t a girl transition in peace?!

TV Guide got the scoop from The Vampire Diaries EP Julie Plec about whether Elena will still be with Stefan in season 4.
Even though Elena chose Stefan in The Vampire Diaries finale, does Damon stand a chance next season? —Jenna
NATALIE: Lest we forget, Damon compelled Elena to forget key moments, including the fact that he was the first Salvatore brother she met. Unfortunately, this revelation won’t suddenly make her change her mind, executive producer Julie Plec says, noting that Damon will be on the outs with both Elena and Stefan in the premiere. “He’s actually feeling alone and how he starts to fill that void will be part of his journey as we go forward this season,” Plec says. “He needs a new drinking buddy.”

TV Guide recently spoken to The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder at the People’s Choice Awards 2012 and they talk about a scene he shot were possibly Damon naked in bed with Katherine. Uh Oh, Delena fans.
Ian Somerhalder told me at the People’s Choice Awards that he’d just shot a Vampire Diaries scene where Damon “wakes up naked with another woman who is a hot vampire.” Might this be Katherine? Nina Dobrev (Elena/Katherine) hints, “I can’t say whether or not I’m in that scene, but it is a character fans are familiar with and Elena will definitely have an opinion on it.”

Kristin Dos Santos recap last night’s episode, but she also answers a question that’s been in all of your minds. Is Jeremy coming back?
So could Elena’s baby bro be gone from MF…for good? For now, the CW is keeping the details of when—or if— Jeremy’s returning to town a secret. However, a solid source assures us that Jeremy (McQueen) will be seen again on the show soon, and although he may be off the series for a little while, he will not be gone forever. Relieved?

and Elena kiss, the aftermath of the kiss and Damon’s naked scene, and did Stefan really threaten to make Elena a vampire.
What I liked about it was that it was satisfying, but you never felt like he was going to pressure her for more. Looking ahead, how do they react to it?
One of my favorite moments of that whole scene, weirdly, is after he kisses her. It’s very clear that her breath has been kinda taken away and that he’s knocked her socks off a little. Then he just looks at her and says “goodnight” and walks away. He said, “If I’m gonna feel guilty about something, I’m gonna feel guilty about this.” He took the moment, he seized the day, he was a cowboy. [Laughs] And now, he’s a man who can walk off and say, “Hey, I did what I needed to do, and now let’s get back to life as we know it.”
After Thanksgiving, Ian Somerhalder tweeted, “Of course 1st day back from a stuffing-your-face holiday, Damon Salvatore is naked. WTF?!” I’m doing the math. Will we see him naked in next week’s episode?
Yes. [Laughs] He’s got a reason to be in a good mood when we come back next week. We start the episode with him in the shower starting his day off with a smile.
I wanted to touch on that recent “Human or Stefan?” promo. That shot of Stefan speeding with Elena in the passenger seat, saying maybe he should turn her into a vampire, and biting his wrist — totally hot.
Yeah. I love that episode. That’s next week’s episode. Stefan goes to such terrible extremes to make his point and to get Klaus to back down. It’s really devastating what he does, and it really cuts right to the core of his love story with Elena. It’s a big Stefan-and-Elena relationship episode in that you get a sense of how tragic and sad it is that such a great love has been ripped apart as a result of everything that Klaus has done.
So that scene is real. It’s not some kind of a dream?
Oh, that scene is very real and very hard on Elena. The one thing that Stefan always protected for her was her choice, and here he is, threatening to take it away.

Are you book fans happy that you finally have Meredith in the show? Torrey Devitto portrays Meredith.
Certainly, the Meredith who is introduced in the show is very different from the Meredith we know from the books. Some differences are obvious — her name has been changed from Sulez to Fell, for one, but fans of Bonnie McCullough and Matt Honeycutt know that’s sometimes a necessary evil. She’s also a doctor, not a high school student. Despite the discrepancies, Plec assures us that book Meredith and show Meredith will share some key qualities. They share much more than a first name.
“In the books, Meredith is Elena’s best friend from the beginning, and she has a very interesting, intriguing relationship with Alaric,” Plec says. In fact, Meredith and Alaric do have a romantic relationship in the books. “It’s fun to be able to take that character and expand her into a new possible love interest for Alaric, who of course has had his hard knocks. He deserves a little love in his life again.”
Book Meredith is unique in that she’s one character who is completely unaffected by Damon’s charms — in fact, she makes him a little bit nervous. Most of Meredith’s scenes are with Alaric and Damon, so viewers can look forward to seeing just how Damon reacts to a little romance getting in the way of his bromance. “She’s a Fell, so she’s got a point of view about how to handle the vampire business in this town,” Plec teases. We’re sure Damon will be thrilled.
